The New Day Foundation (NDF) has an executive body, legal counsel, spiritual counsel and two psychologists assigned as well as guest speakers who are invited to its monthly meetings to present on topics such as nutrition, ARV toxicity, complications of HIV, disclosure, spirituality,sexuality, and so much more. Most members of the group are trained peer counselors and so when personal challenges are shared, the group works together to resolve them.
The NDF as a registered organization has a constitution as well as bank account andfinances the cost of travel for the members who attend monthly meetings fromVirgin Gorda and Anegada as well as assist members who may be experience financial hardships, job loss or other setbacks so that they maintain their health, nutrition and medication regime.
Based on the consistency of its efforts to empower and build the capacity of PLWH, the BVI NDF is actually considered to be one of the strongest, most vibrant; support groups for HIV in both the B & DOCTs with the potential to impact the entire Caribbean according to Ms. Sandra Jones, STI Manager at the Pan American Health Organization HIV Caribbean Office. This commendation has subsequently led to the registration of UKOTs+ which is the sub-regional network of PLWH in the British Overseas Caribbean Territories, right here in the BVI.
